Billion Big Ones For Building Green

The Australian Government is giving away $1 billion in tax breaks for businesses who put energy efficiency improvements in place in their workplace.

You know? Lights n stuff. Perhaps turning the air conditioner from blizzard to mild snow storm.

Eligible businesses can apply for a one-off bonus tax deduction of 50 per cent of the cost of energy efficiency improvements.

The Property Council of Australia is chuffed about the whole idea but they’d like some changes to the way it’s being done. Namely they’d like to see…

  • allowing the incentive to be taken either as a tax credit or a deduction;
  • determining eligibility on a standard environmental performance metric;
  • extending the scheme to other building types;
  • allocating the tax incentive on an entitlement basis;
  • assigning dedicated funding pools for specific building; and,
  • determining specific caps of “rebatable” construction spending.

Now if you’re in the business of making or supplying products which help businesses and work places improve their energy performance, you just found yourself a really good reason to start writing your prospects and telling them how awesome this news is for them.

Vic Loves Thy NABERS

CitySwitch Green Office Victoria is now offering rebates for NABERS Energy tenancy ratings for all new CitySwitch signatories.

A NABERS tenancy rating is a rating to tell you how well your building performs in terms of energy and water performance as compared to other buildings. It’s a great way for tenants to decide which building they’d like to occupy. It’s a pretty clear indicator of what the bills are going to be like.

It’s also an indicator of thoughtful design.

The rebates are scaled according to office floor space – small offices are entitled to a rebate of up to $500, very large signatories can access a rebate of up to $9000.

The offer is up for grabs until June 30 2011, so get in today and grill CitySwitch on how they can help you create a greener office.

And again for suppliers and manufacturers this is another brilliant reason to write to your prospects telling them about the benefits of your products and how they stand to win double-time.

Till next time. Stay awesome.

Warm Regards
